Abortion clinic Canberra
Marie Stopes Australia’s abortion clinic provides caring and non-judgmental abortion services and sexual and reproductive healthcare to over a thousand women and men each year.
Marie Stopes Australia’s Canberra clinic fully supports women’s choice to access abortion services. We believe that every woman has the right to be treated with dignity and respect, and most importantly the right to control their sexual and reproductive health – no matter the circumstances. That is why we provide a full range of abortion services such as post-abortion contraception, decision-based counselling and 24/7 aftercare.
Canberra women can access our abortion services without a GP referral and can choose from medical or surgical abortion depending on gestation. Please visit our main abortion page for more information on what types of abortion are suited to your situation.
Our Canberra clinic provides both surgical abortion and medical abortion along with decision-based counselling, 24/7 aftercare and post-abortion contraception. However, if you can’t access our clinic, tele-abortion could be an option for you. This procedure requires an over the phone assessment and is followed by a medical termination.
Abortion clinic location in Canberra
Our abortion clinic in Canberra is situated on Level 1 of the ACT Health Building, 1 Moore St across from the main post office. Please keep in mind if you are driving that there is no parking available onsite but there are several paid carparks within 5-7 mins walk. We suggest the Marcus Clarke Street carpark as it is the closest ticketed carpark from the Canberra clinic. Alternatively if you are taking public transport, there is a bus stop at Civic Interchange which is 5 minutes to the clinic by foot if you take Alinga Street towards the Australian National University (ANU). You can also access the clinic from the Canberra Airport by car in short 25 minute drive.
Booking an appointment
If you’d like to make a query or book an appointment please feel free to call our national support centre or enquire online with our online form. Our opening hours (AEDT) are on Monday to Thursday from 7am – 7pm, Friday from 7am – 6pm and Saturday from 9am – 5 pm. However, if you can’t contact us during these hours, please call us and leave a message with your contact details and one of our support centre staff will get back to you.
When you book you will be provided with the option of having a long-acting reversible method (LARC) of contraception fitted after the abortion. Having these two procedures in one appointment can be convenient, cost-effective and can also save you from another trip to the doctor’s office. If you’d like to learn more about your choices or for more information on your options, you may wish to use our online contraceptive advisor, My Best Fit.
