RESPONSE TO VICTORIA POLICE

INVESTIGATION INTO HEP C CLUSTER

Marie Stopes International Australia today issued the following statement regarding the Victoria Police investigation at Croydon Day Surgery:

“Marie Stopes International Australia has been advised that Victoria Police has executed a warrant today at the Croydon Day Surgery.

It is understood that the owner of the Surgery is cooperating fully with the Victoria Police investigation.

It has been reported that the warrant is linked to the Hepatitis C cluster investigation being undertaken by the Department of Health.

Since the Department of Health investigation commenced in early 2010, the Department has publicly confirmed that the Surgery complied with all prescribed infection control procedures and there is no Hepatitis C risk to anyone attending the Surgery.

Marie Stopes International Australia announced in August 2010 that it would be working in partnership with the existing Croydon Day Surgery’s owner and medical director to manage the clinic and provide access to much needed sexual and reproductive health services.

All medical practitioners contracted by both Marie Stopes International Australia and the Croydon Day Surgery are licensed to practice in Victoria.”
