Encouraging young women to be vigilant about their sexual health is more important than ever, with the latest Australian statistics showing that Chlamydia has increased by 52% in the last 5 years, with over 58,000 notifications of the infection in 2008 alone .
Chlamydia is especially significant for women, as it is a symptomless infection that left untreated can result in infertility.
The condoms will be given away by charity condom brand, Vixen, the world’s first condom to be marketed to women.
Presented in a beautifully illustrated, discrete tin, Vixen was created to tackle; the lack of contraceptive use in women, due to the embarrassing nature of buying male branded condoms, and the rising rates of sexually transmitted infections.
“What better way to encourage young women to practice safe sex on Valentine’s Day, the most intimate and romantic day of the year, then with free beautiful Vixen condoms” said Claire Maloney, spokesperson for Vixen Condoms.
Vixen Condoms also extends sexual health well beyond the bedrooms of Australia, with $1 from every pack sold donated to The Marie Stopes Sex Appeal to improve the lives of women and their families in developing countries in the Asia Pacific region.
