our global partnership

Globally, the Marie Stopes International Global Partnership, of which Marie Stopes International Australia is a partner of, works in over 40 countries and provides assistance to nearly seven million people every year.

The Marie Stopes International Global Partnership works from a social business model.  Funds generated in self-sustaining programs, such as those in the United Kingdom and Australia, are donated back into the Marie Stopes International Global Partnership country programs to help these programs in developing countries grow and in-turn, where possible, become self-sustaining.

In 2009 the Marie Stopes International Global Partnership…

  • helped nearly seven million people
  • supplied over 158 million condoms
  • provided 870,000 safe abortions
  • opened 57 new centres
  • recorded a 40% increase in long-term contraceptives
  • supplied over 650,000 vasectomies and tubal ligations

This had the impact of preventing…

  • 9.3 million unintended pregnancies
  • 35,600 maternal deaths
  • 2.6 million abortions
  • And saved individual households and national budgets $1.398 billion Australian dollars in
    healthcare spend

All of the above figures are taken from the Marie Stopes International Impact Calculator. The Impact Calculator helps us measure the wider national impact of family planning and safe abortion services.
