The Global Partnership
Marie Stopes International Australia is part of the Marie Stopes International Global Partnership - a registered charity providing a full range of sexual and reproductive healthcare services to 4.8 million people worldwide in over 40 countries across Africa, the Arab World, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.
Marie Stopes International Global Partnership is a not-for-profit sexual and reproductive health organisation that uses modern business methods to achieve the social goal of preventing unplanned pregnancies and reducing the transmission of STIs and HIV worldwide.
In 2008 alone the Marie Stopes International Global Partnership:
- delivered health services to 5.9 million clients
- protected more than 13.5 million couples from unplanned pregnancies and unsafe abortion
- provided 1.1 million safe abortions
- distributed 143 million condoms and over 7.8 million pill cycles
- launched two new country programs
Today, the Marie Stopes International Global Partnership is scaling-up both the quality and coverage of sexual and reproductive health services for women and couples in developing countries in order to:
- eradicate unsafe abortion by rapidly expanding access to comprehensive SRH services, including safe abortion
revolutionise SRH service delivery by providing global technical leadership in family planning and safe abortion
serve the underserved such as rural communities and displaced populations, rather than merely fighting for a larger share of the existing contraceptive market
- eliminate barriers to SRH supplies and services through programming and advocacy at all levels
- strengthen health systems through partnerships with governments and the non-state sector, to help them do more and do better
By 2010, the Marie Stopes International Global Partnership intends to expand to 10 more countries and aims to protect 20 million couples annually from unplanned pregnancies and unsafe abortion.
